It does not bother Melissa Ricks that people are not convinced that she and boyfriend Jake Cuenca are just friends. “Kung hindi sila naniniwala, nasa kanila ‘yon. Basta ako, masaya ako sa buhay ko ngayon and hindi naman ako nagsisinungaling. Basta ako masaya ako. ‘Yun na ‘yon. Basta ako, personal and showbiz life, magkaiba na ‘yon.” The Tanging Yaman star clarified that aside from onscreen partner Matt Evans, Jake is another male celeb that she is very close to.
Since the media has placed her under close scrutiny because of this issue, Melissa said that she is very cautious of her actions every time that she and Jake are spotted together. “I’m not used to it [attention]. In the six years na nasa showbiz ako, ngayong year atsaka last year lang medyo may tsismis, so hindi ako medyo sanay talaga. So as much as possible, iniiwasan ko na lang. Pero siyempre hindi talaga maiiwasan, siyempre andaming photographers.”
For the upcoming Holy Week holidays, Melissa said that she will just be staying at home because she wasn’t able to book an out-of-town trip due to her hectic schedule. “Actually, gusto ko sanang mag-beach o mag-out-of-the-country kaya lang hindi ko na naayos ‘yung schedule and everywhere is fully booked. Andaming tao so stay home na lang muna ako and if we can go somewhere kasama ang mga friends ko siguro land trip na lang.”
When asked if she would be able to go out with Jake during the long holiday, Mel replied, “Meron akong trabaho half of the Holy Week and magti-taping pa rin kami. Hindi ko alam ang schedule niya (Jake) pero busy rin siya sa mga upcoming projects na gagawin pa niya.”
